From 5-7 September, DCAF and stiftung neue verantwortung (SNV) co-organized a working visit in Berlin for civil society organizations (CSOs) and media representatives from North Macedonia, along with a staff member from the North Macedonian Parliament. Also present at this working visit were the representatives of the BIRC Institute – Xhelal Neziri, president and Lorik Idrizi, program director.

The working visit enhanced participants’ knowledge and understanding of the role of CSOs/media in democratic oversight through exchange of experiences with their German counterparts.

The programme included a visit to the German Parliament for a meeting with the Chair of the Intelligence Committee, as well as visit to Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte e.V. (GFF). In addition to the facilitators from SNV, participants learned from speakers representing other German CSOs/media organizations including GFF and netzpolitik.org, as well as journalists.

The working visit is part of DCAF’s Intelligence and Security Sector Reform Programme in North Macedonia funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Netherlands, and Sida.
