OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: “MEDIA INCUBATOR” FOR JOURNALISTS FROM NORTH MACEDONIA

The Goethe-Institut Skopje and the Balkan Institute for Regional Cooperation (BIRC) invite all young journalists or students in North Macedonia who are interested in writing social reports to apply for participating in a training program within the project “Media Incubator”. The general objective of this project is to strengthen the actors of the civil society and to fight prejudices against minorities, ethnic or social. It also aims to contribute to the reconstruction and representation of social problems and their treatment by combining text and photography, to try to develop them further, and to introduce them into public discussions.

This innovative training program will be conducted in four modules:

  1. Theory part

Module 1: Transition from journalistic reportage to social reportage, differences and similarities.

Module 2: Functions of social reportage.

  1. Praxis part

Module 3: Research work: How? Where? Why? Fake? Real?

Module 4: Storytelling incl. connection of text and photography as action and research method.

The trainings will be designed and facilitated by well-known and experienced experts from North Macedonia.

When: 10.05.2021 – 14.05.2021 (08:30 – 17:30)

Where: BIRC office, Tetovo (please note: depending on the COVID situation, the trainings might be hold on the online platform ZOOM)

Working language: The trainings will be held in Macedonian language. A translation into Albanian will be provided for all trainings.

Fellowship: All participants will receive a fellowship of 350 EUR gross. After completing the program, BIRC will provide a one-month internship program in an independent media outlet in North Macedonia. This would be a chance for the participants to get employed in those media as well.

Who can apply?

Eligible to apply for attending the program are as below:

  • Young/aspiring journalists above 16 years
  • Students of the faculties of media studies, communication and journalism
  • Editors
  • Bloggers
  • Experts
  • Civil society actors

The applicants must shortly describe their motivation to be part of the training program.
